MSY North Terminal
In recent years, the Louis Armstrong-New Orleans Armstrong International Airport (MSY) has seen a dramatic recovery from the significant underutilization in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. When 2010 enplanements reached 90 percent of pre-Katrina levels, the airport turned its focus from recovery and short/mid-term development to long-term infrastructure development based on a 30-year planning horizon. In 2012, the City of New Orleans and the New Orleans Aviation Board selected Atkins to oversee the airport’s return to a world-class facility in both form and function.
The project was done in partnership with Atkins International and Leo A. Daily. eStudio was responsible for the redesign of the two north concourses totaling 350,000SF to bring them into budget from the original design concept by I.M. Pei. Responsibilities involved coordination of both airside and landside components including gate and hold room layout, TSA and FAA, fueling lines, antenna farm and MEP, structural and civil consultants from design development through construction documents.
The project is currently beginning construction and is expected to be completed in 2018.
